SageMaker JumpStart in 2026: From Model Selection to Deployment
SageMaker JumpStart added over 100 models from 30 providers in January–September 2026. Its discovery and deployment updates help connect model selection with workload requirements.

Koharu's reading tip
After choosing a model, decide what its deployment should prioritize. Interactive waiting time and bulk processing throughput lead to different choices.

Finding an AI model does not automatically give you a deployment that fits your application. A conversational interface and a large document-processing workload can require different priorities.
The SageMaker JumpStart review published on October 19, 2026, offers a useful way to examine that gap. As the choices expand, which setup decisions can you delegate, and which still need your judgment?
Follow the path from narrowing candidates to opening them in Studio, choosing a deployment profile, and evaluating the result. That connects easier setup with an informed adoption decision.
Filter JumpStart candidates by input type and task
JumpStart provides access to pretrained models and example notebooks within SageMaker AI, with paths into deployment and other workflows. The official guide notes that customization and evaluation support varies by model. Catalog membership does not imply support for every action.
During January–September 2026, JumpStart added over 100 models from 30 providers. Its simplified Model Hub exposes the catalog from the SageMaker AI console landing page, with filters for input and output modalities, provider, model size, license, and framework.
For document work, for example, first distinguish extracting text from an image from summarizing text already extracted. This is a suggested selection approach; the chosen model’s details determine its actual capabilities and license conditions.
Carry a Hugging Face model selection into Studio
For supported models, “Deploy on SageMaker AI” on Hugging Face opens the Studio deployment page with the model already selected. AWS introduced this integration on July 6, 2026. It does not cover arbitrary Hugging Face models.
New Studio environments created through this path receive preconfigured permissions. Existing environments instead receive guidance for adding necessary permissions. GPU quota visibility also does not remove the need to request an increase when required.
The shortcut reduces repeated discovery and environment preparation. Once in Studio, you still choose how to run the model.
Choose which deployment goal should take priority
Concurrent-user counts alone do not describe a workload. The use-case-based deployment feature announced on April 14, 2026 selects predefined configurations using a task and a performance priority. Its initial model list should not be treated as an exhaustive current support list.
The current Studio deployment guide describes choosing a use case and optimization in the Performance panel for supported models. These options translate into the following decision points.
| Profile | Priority | Illustrative application |
|---|---|---|
| Latency optimized | Response waiting time | Interactive conversations |
| Throughput optimized | Work processed per unit of time | Processing many documents |
| Cost optimized | Expense | Reducing costs within acceptable waiting times |
| Balanced | A balance across metrics | Establishing a comparison baseline |
Visible metrics include P50 latency, time to first token (TTFT), and throughput. Waiting for output to begin and processing a volume of work are different concerns. Define which one needs improvement before choosing a “fast” configuration.
The examples above are selection aids. For a chat application, one possible experiment is to compare Latency optimized with Balanced under matching inputs and concurrency, measuring output quality and waiting time. A profile name alone cannot establish the best configuration for your application.
Compare output quality and running costs before adoption
With deployment candidates narrowed, evaluate outputs using inputs representative of the intended work. JumpStart integrates with SageMaker Clarify foundation model evaluations. Its evaluation guide describes the Evaluate action for models with built-in evaluation support.
Cost comparisons need a consistent basis too. The SageMaker AI pricing page states that JumpStart models and solutions carry no additional JumpStart charge; underlying training and inference instance hours are billed. Include both the selected instance and running time in an experiment budget.
JumpStart increasingly handles the preparation between discovering a candidate and having an environment in which to try it. The remaining decision is which combination of waiting time, throughput, and expense works for models that meet your quality requirements. Use the preparation time saved to make that comparison.
